Over the last 40 years, the Democratic Party in America has moved further and further to the left. And when I say “left,” I mean simply – socialist. I mean pro-welfare, pro affirmative action, big spending, big government, higher taxes, pro-abortion, pro-gay, secular, anti-business, anti 2nd amendment, anti-Christian, anti-defense and anti-America.
Over that time period, for reasons known best to God and media moguls, the mainstream news media has become incredibly biased to the left. See my earlier articles for statistics on this in case you have any doubts of this.

Recently Sean Hannity said on his radio show that 2008 will go down in history as the year that the news media in America died. He said that they have been so much in the tank for Barack Obama, supporting him, helping him, doing twice as much coverage on him as for McCain, viciously attacking Sarah Palin, that they have lost all credibility as unbiased news sources. I would add that they have abandoned their job of reporting news in a fair, unbiased fashion and have become unabashed advocates for the Democrats and liberal causes, which is not and should not be their jobs.
I believe that what has happened over the last 8 years is that the Democratic Party, in league with their large PR firm known as the mainstream news media, has relentlessly attacked President Bush, mostly over the war in Iraq. And by election time in 2006 they had finally succeeded to the point where the Republicans lost their majority in Congress. And by this time they have completely succeeded in destroying President Bush.
Now I believe the President has done an extremely poor job of responding to this relentless onslaught. He should have responded to the attacks and used his bully pulpit to promote his agenda and attack his attackers. I don’t really know why he hasn’t and why he has remained silent in the face of such attacks. But at this point the Democrats and the media have so destroyed Bush that the Republican Party is in shambles. See the excellent article, “The Audacity of the Democrats” by Rocco DiPippo for more details on this.
Bouyed by their victory in destroying Bush, the media decided to go for the jugular vein. They wanted a Democrat back in the White House, badly (badly enough to not care that they were losing all their credibility). But since they had succeeded so brilliantly in destroying President Bush’s credibility, they decided to help nominate not just any Democrat for the White House, but the most liberal Senator in the US. So they backed Barack Obama, the most liberal Senator in America, even over heir apparent Hillary Clinton.
What Does Barack Obama Stand For?
So now that we have Barack Obama as the Democratic candidate for President, and due to the recent economic crisis and the failure of McCain to name those responsible for it (mainly Senator Christopher Dodd and Representative Barney Frank, not greedy Wall Streeters), Obama is leading the polls.
So let’s take a look at what Barack Obama stands for and what he believes.
Energy
Obama supports increasing taxes on fossil fuels, is against drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, and against drilling for natural gas offshore. He also supports new sweeping environmental regulations that will raise the cost of gas, groceries, heating and air conditioning. He supports keeping in place the 54 cents tax on each gallon of gas. And he is against using nuclear power for the production of any electricity in the US. (Source: www.barackobamatest.com)
Taxes
Obama wants to increase the tax that stock holders pay on returns from 15% to almost 40%. He wants to increase the death tax rate to 55% for any income past the first $1 million. He wants to increase the top tax rate for self-employed from 37.9% to 54.9%. He wants to increase the tax rate for America’s 3.7 million Sub Chapter S corporations from 35% to 50.3%. He wants to increase the tax rate for people who earn over $1 million. He wants to increase the top individual tax rates, including income tax and social security, to 55%.
According to the Tax Policy Center, Obama’s spending plans would cost the federal government nearly $900 billion in his first term and increase the national debt by $3.3 trillion over ten years. (Source: www.barackobamatest.com)
Second Amendment
Obama thinks that firearm manufacturers who sell a legal product that is not defective should be allowed to be sued if a criminal uses their product in the commission of a crime. He thinks that new and tougher gun control laws are needed to fight crime (60% of Americans disagree in 2004 Zogby poll). Obama would favor a law banning all handguns (59% of Americans disagree in 2008 Pew Research Center poll). He supports legislation to ban nearly all ammunition used in hunting and sport shooting. Obama disagrees that Americans have the right to use deadly force for self defense in their own home, without having to retreat. In the Illinois State Senate, Obama supported increasing taxes on firearms and ammunition by 500%. (Source: www.barackobamatest.com)
Defense
Obama has said that we should negotiate with terrorist nations without preconditions. Obama wants to pull out of Iraq on an exact timetable, without regard to how well the Iraqi government is doing in terms of handling their own security. (Source: www.barackobamatest.com)
Health Care
Obama has a $65 billion plan to institute taxpayer-funded universal health coverage, which would provide health insurance for those currently uninsured, including illegal immigrants (59% of Americans disagree with such a plan in 2008 Associated Television News / Zogby poll). (Source: www.barackobamatest.com)
Abortion
Obama says that a fetus that survives an abortion should not receive medical care. He supports a woman’s right to abortion because she doesn’t like the sex of the baby. He disagrees that a doctor should be required to notify parents of an underage girl seeking an abortion.
When asked when human life begins, Obama stated that this question was “above my pay grade.” However, 58.9% of Americans believe life begins at conception according to a 2008 Associated Television News / Zogby poll.
Obama says that abortion should always be legal. He supports a procedure called “partial birth abortion,” whereas 66% of Americans felt it should be illegal in a 2007 CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll.
Obama recently said that the first thing he would do as President would be to sign the Freedom of Choice Act, which would wipe out all federal and state restrictions on abortion, including on the partial birth abortion procedure. (Source: www.barackobamatest.com)
Mental Health
Obama specifically includes mental health care in his health care plan. John McCain’s health care plan does not mention mental health. Although mental health parity was just included in the “sweetened” economic bailout bill, this still matters because it shows a much higher support for mental health programs by Obama.
Obama stated "I am a longtime supporter of mental health parity. I helped pass the Illinois mental health parity law. And my national public health plan will include coverage of all essential medical services, including preventive, maternity and mental health care. I strongly support mental health fairness and parity of mental health coverage in all federal health programs. I cosponsored the Mental Health Parity Act of 2007 and I am a supporter of the bipartisan Paul Wellstone Mental Health and Addiction Equity Act of 2007. Similarly, I believe in prohibiting group health plans from imposing treatment or financial limitations on mental health and substance related disorder benefits that are different from those applied to medical or surgical services. I am also committed to ensuring that Americans with disabilities or mental illness receive Medicaid and Medicare benefits in a low-cost, effective and timely manner."
Obama also supports mandatory mental health screening for all military personnel.

Summary
Barack Obama is the most left-wing candidate ever to be nominated by any major party for President. Setting aside for a moment the fact that he has associated with radicals and terrorists for most of his life, looks down his nose at middle class Americans as “clinging to guns, religion, and hatred of those not like them,” and has the thinnest resume of accomplishments of anyone to run for President at least during my lifetime – if he is elected President we will see the largest move to the left for the US government in at least 40 years, since LBJ’s Great Society programs. And some programs, such as nationalized health care, once started, would be almost impossible to discontinue.
The largest irony here is that by survey, the majority of Americans are against most of the actual points of his agenda. But they have been captivated by his speaking style, and the media have cooperated by asking few questions about and failing to mention or talk about his controversial and radical positions. So most Americans probably don't even know what Obama stands for. All they know is that they don’t like President Bush, and Obama promises “change.” Yeah, changing America to France.
